As eyelid texture and the area around the eyes change over time, makeup may apply differently than it once did. A lighter hand, thin layers, and controlled placement can help create a softer result without requiring you to give up color or definition.

A simple eye makeup routine

  1. Prepare the eyelid with a thin, even layer of your preferred base and smooth away any product that gathers in a fold.
  2. Apply lid color in thin layers, pressing before softly blending.
  3. Look straight ahead and place crease color where you want the definition to remain visible.
  4. Keep deeper color controlled near the outer eye and blend inward with light pressure.
  5. Add liner in short strokes close to the lashes instead of drawing one heavy line.
  6. Step back from the mirror and adjust for visible balance rather than exact symmetry.

Helpful brush roles

Use the UNDER-ALL-OVER brush for smooth lid color and targeted base or concealer. The EASY CREASE defining brush supports controlled powder placement through the crease. The LITTLE LINES brush can create soft lash-line or brow definition with short strokes.

Techniques for a softer finish

  • Use less product first: Thin layers are easier to control and soften.
  • Reduce pressure: Let the tips of the fibers do the blending.
  • Check with eyes open: This helps you see which placement remains visible.
  • Soften only the edge: Keep definition where you want it and blend the boundary rather than spreading color everywhere.
  • Choose your preferred finish: Matte, satin, and shimmer can all work; placement and personal preference matter more than rigid rules.

Easy Crease Tutorial

For this look, start by applying your transition color on the top of the Easy Crease brush, about halfway down the bristles. Place into the crease, where you want the most color. Holding the brush into the crease, sweep back and forth toward your nose until the desired effect has been achieved.

For the deep crease, place your desired color on the top of the brush, only about ¼ down the bristles. Follow the exact steps as the transition color.

For the liner and outside corner, I chose complimentary colors. Using the Little Lines brush, start at the outside corner, drag the shadow under the lashline toward the inner eye until satisfied. Extend the liner, at the same angle as the lower lashline, up to the bottom of the crease. Fill in the outside corner with the liner shadow.

When satisfied, add a second, lighter color, in the same color family and pull slightly across the lid from the outside corner.

For the lid highlight, place your highlight color on the bottom of the Easy Crease brush. Place the brush at the bottom of the crease. Press, wiggle and pull the brush toward your lashline. This will also blend your second, complimentary color.

Finish by taking the remaining shadow from the Easy Crease brush and placing it under your brow.
